San Diego Jewish Academy Hires New Director of Security and Safety

Former SWAT Officer Ken Freshwater Brings Unique Combination of Public and Private Sector Experience

(San Diego, CA) – San Diego Jewish Academy (SDJA), a National Blue Ribbon Jewish day school located in the Carmel Valley community of San Diego, today announced the hiring of Ken Freshwater as Director of Security and Safety.

“Following a very competitive interview process, we have hired Ken Freshwater as SDJA’s new Director, Security and Safety,” said Chaim Heller, Head of School at San Diego Jewish Academy. “His credentials and impressive background—as well as his hands-on experience as the father of four—make him a perfect fit for our community.”

Freshwater has over 31 years of criminal law enforcement experience with three different organizations, and over 20 years experience as a criminal investigator.  In his 15 years at the San Diego County District Attorneys Office, Ken held the ranks of Criminal Investigator, Supervising Investigator and Commander.  Ken also has a SWAT background with leadership roles in supervision and training, threat assessment and management and defense tactics.  Ken successfully transitioned from law enforcement and has spent the past five years in the private sector, including private investigations and compliance roles.

“Ken embodies a long-standing commitment to the San Diego community and to keeping our streets safe,” continued Heller.  “Throughout the interview process, we were extremely impressed with both Ken’s law enforcement background and his interpersonal skills – and we are lucky and pleased that he has joined the leadership at SDJA.”

Ken is married with four grown children.
