SDJA’s Response to Hurricane Harvey

Dear Members of the SDJA Community,

Our nation is still reeling from the impact of Hurricane Harvey in Texas. Seeing the stark images of destruction in Houston recalls for many of us the images of New Orleans from Katrina, and how the SDJA community rallied to airlift supplies to the city at that time.

While each of us can help as individuals, as a school we are in touch with the leadership of our sister school in Houston, Emery Weiner Day School. Their Head of School wrote:

The damage here is beyond words – but the community has come together & we’ve been genuinely moved by the outpouring of support from people across the country, like you.  So thanks.

In terms of helping, our website has two links where folks can donate.  Another idea is purchasing gift cards from places that affected families will inevitably use, such as Amazon, Target, Bed, Bath & Beyond, etc.  We’d be happy to accept those & distribute to students in need.

Whatever you do will be meaningful – so thanks again.

Shabbat Shalom.

Stuart J. Dow, Head of School, The Emery/Weiner School

We will be collecting gift cards for Emery/Weiner Relief in the offices of GMLS, MUS and the A building, and we’ll send them off next Friday. We are also organizing for a school-wide Tikkun Olam project that we hope to announce soon.
