We are excited to announce that San Diego is now the 40th chapter of the Hazamir International Jewish Teen Choir, with strong ties to SDJA. The singers in each chapter, in addition to acquiring musical skills such as reading sheet music and ensemble singing, study the same repertoire with a local conductor. The chapters across the country gather each year in the spring for a Shabbaton in which they meet fellow Jewish teens and rehearse their music, and this weekend culminates with a grand performance of the music at Lincoln Center in New York City. Students who participate in the choir also earn three college credits.
Many new chapters start with just a handful of members; the San Diego chapter has fifteen members, around half of whom are SDJA students. Our very own Jeremy Toren also is involved as the piano accompanist for the choir.
