From his beginnings in Nazi-occupied Austria, Shlomo Carlebach (Tony Award Nominee, JOSH YOUNG, ) was destined to make a difference. But it was from his unlikely friendship with soul legend Nina Simon (Israeli Singing Sensation, ESTER RADA) that he learned not only about gospel jazz, but also how music can be an agent of change.

From Carlebach’s “House of Love & Prayer”, a hippie center for Jewish music and learning, which he established in in San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury in the late 60’s,  to playing alongside acts like ‪Bob Dylan, Jefferson Airplane, ‪The Grateful Dead, and Pete Seeger, Carlebach played concerts worldwide, igniting the spirit of millions with his soul-stirring melodies, engaging storytelling and boundless love of humanity.

Carlebach’s open acceptance of less religious, secular Jews and the disaffected youth of the ’60s and ‘70s created a monumental shift in the Jewish outreach movement. He left a legacy of soulful, loving music and a reinvigorated Jewish community.
