Hello and happy summer! I know that, as a community, we are spread far and wide at the moment. I wish you all safe travels and fun wherever you may be.
In order to prepare you for a smooth start to the 2018-19 school year, I am providing here some important information that I encourage you review and then save to refer back to as we get closer to the start of school.
*Please note that we will also be providing “special events” calendars to all families in August. These special events calendars will be grade-specific and will include events such as programs/performances, field trips, Picture Day and more for the whole year.
Thursday, 8/16 and Friday, 8/17: Intake Meetings. These are 15-minute parent-teacher meetings with one of your child’s teachers before the start of the school year. Intake Meetings are optional. On August 1, you will be able to sign up for a meeting day/time online.
Friday, 8/17: New Student Orientations. Is your child new to GMLS? Bring him/her to meet the teachers, see the classrooms, and learn about school programs. It’s a great way to make your child feel more comfortable on the first day of school. Meet in the Beit Midrash, Admin building 2nd floor.
1st – 5th grade: 10:00-11:00am
Monday, 8/20: First Day of School. Join us at 8:05am at the Front Steps for a beautiful K-12 opening ceremony and Modeh Ani. A Welcome Back Breakfast for parents will be held in the Ulam following the ceremony.
Monday, 8/20: ECC/GMLS Pizza Party. Join us for pizza and refreshments right after school on the Lower School playground. It is a great time to relax and connect with old friends and to meet our new families and students.
Wednesday, 8/29: Back to School Night. 5:30-8:00pm. Join us for wine and appetizers at 5:30pm followed by presentations by your child’s teachers in the classrooms. Learn about what the new school year holds and how to stay connected.
School Start Times:
7:30am (Mon-Fri) – Supervision is available for students on the Lower School playground beginning at 7:30am. We encourage you to drop your child off early so that they can have time to socialize and be physically active before school starts.
8:05am (M, W, Th, F) – Students are to be in class and ready to go at 8:05am.
Late Start Tuesdays – Students start school at 8:20am on Tuesdays so that teachers can attend all-school faculty meetings.
It is important to order your uniform apparel early so that your child comes to school in uniform on the first day. Please remember that shoes are part of our uniform/dress code and must meet certain specifications. You can find all the information, as well as a link to Lands End, here.
Many of you pre-ordered school supplies already. If you did not, however, please look here for what your child should bring on the first day of school.
Thank you so much for your time and attention in reviewing this information. The more communication and coordination we have between home and school, the smoother things go for everyone – and most importantly, for your child! I will be back in touch with you in early August.
