Athletics

Girls soccer.

Athletics are a vital part of our curriculum

Our athletic program provides students with opportunities to compete in competitive team sports while building a strong set of values, including teamwork, self-discipline, ethical development, and physical fitness. Our students gain:

  • Physical Fitness & Athletic Functional Movement Skill
  • Ethical Qualities
  • Emotional Maturity
  • Constructive Social Abilities

SDJA student-athletes aspire to improve an aspect of their performance every day in the classroom and in the athletic arena. Having the self-awareness to challenge daily personal growth requires the ability to accept failure, learn, and grow. At SDJA, failure is an option; failure to try is not.

Athletic Opportunities

SDJA Sports Teams

Our high school is a California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) member and competes against other San Diego schools. Varsity teams are part of the Coastal Conference with divisions ranging between Division 3-5.

Our middle school is a member of the South Coast Middle School League that comprises 15 other independent schools in San Diego.

Visit our Sports Pages for a full list of sports offered, more detailed information on each of our teams, and to view all of our schedules.

Physical Education

Physical Education is an alternative option for middle school students to earn sports credit. This course is held during the last period of the day while the other middle school teams practice. For Lower school students, physical education focuses on healthy movement, confidence building, and strong teamwork.

Independent Study Program (ISPE)

Independent Study Program (ISPE) is also available for students who are pursuing other competitive activities. These can include sports that are not offered at SDJA or for athletes who compete at a regional or national level.
