SDJA Science Competitions
Throughout the year, SDJA students compete in numerous science competitions. These competitions enhance our studentŐs college acceptance prospects and enable them to win scholarships.

Middle School Competitions
Greater San Diego Science and Engineering Fair
The GSDSEF is the local science fair. 1st place winners in middle school continue to the state science fair to compete. Additional awards are also given by corporations to student projects that are exceptional in specific topical areas.

California State Science Fair
The CSSF is the state level science fair. 1st through 4th place winners in each category are presented monetary prizes. Additional awards are also given by corporations to student projects that are exceptional in specific topical areas.

Broadcom Masters Competition
The Broadcom Masters Competition is the national science fair for middle school students. Students are invited to participate in the competition based on their standings in the GSDSEF and CSSF.

3M Young Scientist Challenge
The 3M Young Scientist Challenge is an online competition opened to middle school students nationally. Students upload a 2-minute long video on their science fair project. The winner receives a $25,000 scholarship.

Google Science Fair
The Google Science Fair is open to 13-14 year olds internationally. Students create a Google website on their science fair project and upload a 20-slide power point presentation. The winner receives a $50,000 scholarship and a trip to the Galapagos Islands.

Future City Competition
The Future City Competition is a national competition for 6th-8th graders. Student teams of 3 work with an engineer mentor to design and build a model of a city of the future.

High School Competitions
Greater San Diego Science and Engineering Fair
The GSDSEF is the local science fair. 1st place winners in high school continue to the state science fair and SWEEPSTAKES winners are invited to compete in the INTEL International Science and Engineering Fair. Awards are also given by corporations to student projects that are exceptional in specific topical areas.

The CSSF is the state level science fair. 1st through 4th place winners in each category are presented monetary prizes. Awards are also given by corporations to student projects that are exceptional in specific topical areas.

INTEL International Science and Engineering Fair
The INTEL ISEF is the international science fair for high school students. Students from over 60 countries compete in the science fair. Students are invited to the INTEL ISEF from the GSDSEF.

YES Young Epidemiology Scholars Competition The YES competition is a nationwide annual competition that invites high school students with epidemiology projects to enter and compete. Finalists are invited to Washington, D.C where they compete for numerous awards that include large college scholarships. It is run by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the College Board.

GILDOR/GRUSS Project
The GILDOR project is an international competition. School teams work together to create a solution to a problem and compete nationally and internationally. This competition is open to 9th and 10th graders.

Google Science Fair
