SDJA Enters the Digital Age for Research
SDJA has purchased several electronic databases for use by teachers and students at school and home. These products are designed to keep students safe when using the Internet and to help teachers find resources that match each student’s learning needs. These databases include NetTrekker, World Book Encyclopedia online, and two databases from Facts on File. These links will bring you to information about each database and the access information for our school. In addition, the PTO purchased UnitedStreaming that is an online video service for use by the teachers.
Online Databases
Lost & Found
Any items left around campus are picked up by maintenance and placed in the Lost and Found, located in a storage room behind the Lower School office. At the end of each month, any items left unclaimed are donated to charity.
Lunch
At SDJA, we aim to serve students food that tastes good as well as
food that is good for them. We believe it is important to provide
students with nourishing options that promote the Jewish value of
Shmirat Haguf, caring for one’s body, whenever possible and we’ve made
some exciting changes to our school lunch program to reflect that
belief.
We are always striving to improve the quality and freshness of the
food that we serve. We provide foods high in nutrient values, lower in
fat than most processed foods and prepare what we can from scratch in
our kitchen. Every lunch ordered comes with a salad bar that features
local and organic produce whenever possible and we use a combination
of whole wheat or grains in most bread products. To create a deeper
understanding and appreciation of food, students are working in our
edible garden to help provide the school with organic produce when
possible and all food is, of course, Kosher.
We understand that our food choices make a difference and at SDJA we
seek to make the healthier decision as easy as possible for your
children.

Nurse
A Registered Nurse is on staff to provide a warm, caring environment to students that are ill or injured. The nurse can administer various over the counter medications (i.e. Tylenol, Motrin, Tums, etc), if parental permission has been given in our student health center. In addition, students’ medications or treatments as prescribed by a physician and provided by parents can be administered on site. The nurse carefully monitors communicable diseases that may affect the students at SDJA and keeps parents informed.

Pick Up and Drop Off Procedures
SDJA continues to address the importance of a safe arrival and departure for the children of our school. The most difficult time to monitor their safety is during the transitional times of their arrival and departure. Please read the following guidelines that were designed to ensure student safety. Your active participation in following these guidelines not only helps to keep our students safe, but can also contribute to the efficient arrival and departure for many families.

Senior Trip to Israel
Each year, SDJA’s senior class embarks on a 5½ week journey to Eastern Europe and Israel. The trip is the culmination of their education at SDJA. Throughout their time abroad, they visit places studied in AP European History, see the places that authors described in poems and stories that they read in Humanities, and visit historical sites they could only imagine in Judaic Studies classes.

Textbooks
Student Textbooks for 2011-2012 Now on Swoopthat.com
Students should have all textbooks in hand prior to school beginning on August 24 to be ready for the first week of school. Please note that Hebrew books for all levels, as well as E2K science class textbooks, are provided by the school and will not need to be purchased.
We are pleased to announce that we have switched our bookstore service this year to save you money on textbook purchases. Our new bookstore, powered by Swoopthat.com (founded by an SDJA alumnus), is a price comparison engine designed to find you the lowest prices on textbooks and other products. Here's how it works:
Purchasing Textbooks
When you enter your children's courses, our new bookstore searches Amazon.com, Half.com and every other major online textbook website to find you the cheapest possible prices for all your books. The average family saves substantially on textbooks through this price comparison. Since you'll be purchasing books from various online retailers, we recommend that you buy your books as early as possible, preferably by the end of June.
Click here to go to Swoopthat.com.
Selling Textbooks
In addition to textbook purchases, our new bookstore helps you sell your old books by searching the web to find you the highest buyback prices. To maximize your buyback earnings, we recommend that you sell your books shortly after finals week. This is also a good week to buy books for the coming year.
Online Buybacks: For maximum buyback earnings, use our new online buyback system - it searches the web to find you the highest buyback prices for your books.
Click here to sell your textbooks.
Product Search
The new bookstore also contains a product search engine that will raise money for the senior trip to Israel. As you purchase iPods, TVs, household supplies or virtually any product through this search engine, a portion of all proceeds will be donated back to the school for the senior trip. Plus, the search engine compares prices and shows coupons for over 15 million products, so as you save money by purchasing products online, you'll also be donating money towards the senior trip!
Yad B’Yad Committee
Literally, hand-in-hand, this “mitzvah committee” of parent volunteers gives support to families going through a crisis or loss of a loved one. If you know of a crisis in the school community, or would like to help, please click here for contact and general information.
