Below please find a list of the Kayefet offerings for the 2017-2018 school year:

Mondays : 9 classes

Dates: 11/27, 12/04, 12/11, 01/08, 01/22, 01/29, 02/05, 02/12, 02/26

UKSA (United Kingdom Soccer Association): (K-5th)

This is a class designed for children who are ready for more of a challenge. The curriculum is designed to build fundamental skills such as balance, coordination and ball skills.

Our fast-paced, fun exposure to the most popular sport in the world opens up your kid’s minds. Classes focus on foot-eye coordination, dribbling, scoring and balance. Our classes will also introduce the concepts of teamwork and cooperation. The Coaches also help your child to build a sense of independence.

This class is appropriate for K to 5th grade. Enrollment is minimum 6 students.

Lego: Builders and Brainiacs! Part of the STAR S.T.E.M. Project (K-2nd)

Explore your world through LEGO©!  Create innovative projects that focus on form, color, and movement while having fun.  Projects emphasize teamwork, focus, creativity, and inventive thinking while developing fine motor skills and problem solving.  Students will design LEGO artwork, create and play LEGO games, and build directed creative projects that apply core educational concepts

This class is appropriate for kindergarten up to 2nd grade. Enrollment is limited to a max of 12 students.

Capture the Flag: Scott Bucky (K-5th)

Learns different strategies and tactics while playing everyone’s favorite game, Capture the Flag. Enrollment is limited to a min of 6 and max of 20 students.

Exploring the Magic of Theatre: (K-2nd)

In a series of workshops/classes, students get an introduction to theatre by visiting each aspect of a production:

Theatre games/Auditions

Finding Your Character

Sets/Props/Costumes

Rehearsal/Movement/Vocals

Technical/ Design/Backstage

Performance

Each session begins with theatre games to get the juices flowing and movement classes close with a cool down. First session is a getting to know you and teaching the games /exercises we will be doing throughout. This is an all-inclusive process-everyone plays a part.

Tuesdays: 10 classes

Dates: 11/28, 12/05, 12/12, 01/09, 01/16, 01/23, 01/30, 02/06, 02/13, 02/27

Fused Glass: Ilanit Shalev (K-5th)

In this class, students will learn about safety, the effect of different kiln temperatures, cutting skills and a variety of fusing techniques. Each project will begin with a sketch of the child’s design idea so that students understand the colors and process involved. This class is designed for students in grades K-5. Minimum enrollment is 7 and maximum enrollment is 10.

Tennis – Marc Assaraf (K-5th)

Assaraf Tennis Consulting is proud to be part of the San Diego Jewish Academy, The Kayefet after school program. We teach the students by their ability, not by their age.

Students will learn basic fundamentals of the game such as: Gamesmanship, scoring, forehand, backhand, serve and volley.

Enrollment is limited to a min of 4 and max of 16 students.

Dance Combo – Lilian Elbaz (K-5th) – **** NEW CLASS

Dance Combo classes are designed to explore different styles of dance, including: hip hop, Latin, Israeli dancing, contemporary, jazz, ballet and more. Students will have the opportunity to explore many different dance styles all in one class. Classes incorporate fun and appropriate music! This dance class provides high quality instruction within self-expression in a non-competitive FUN environment.

Enrollment is limited to a min of 4 and max of 16 students.

Wednesdays: 12 classes

Ultimate Mine Craft: (1st-5th)

The immersive game of Minecraft is a crowning achievement of modern technological creativity and innovation – A tool for students to create a unique world in which to build anything they can imagine.  Students will use Minecraft as a gateway into team-building, problem solving and resource management-all while having fun! This virtual world is yours to explore, build, destroy and create in any way you want.  Students explore the hidden potential of this popular game as they learn about construction and architecture in their very own computer generated world.

This class is appropriate for 1st – 3rd grade.  

Enrollment is limited to a max of 12 students

The Junior Baker Class: Zohar Koren(K-3rd)

An introductory class covering variety of baking techniques starting with learning how to use a pastry bag and drawing a picture with chocolate to making cookies and a chocolate bowl by themselves.

Each class the kids will go home with the goods they made on their own.

This class is appropriate for  K-3rd grade.

Enrollment is minimum 7 and limited to maximum of 10 students.

Basketball: Ofir Gonen (K-5th)

Sessions are specifically designed for boys and girls with a desire to learn the game from experienced coaches.

We focus on a holistic approach to basic skills acquisition and understanding of group process in an effort to build a strong foundation for future success as a basketball player. The children will learn fundamentals of the game such as, how to dribble, pass, crossovers, spin moves and more advanced drills in future sessions. Skills will be emphasized during game time.

This class will offer two groups – one for K-2 and one for 3-5. Enrollment is minimum 6 students for each group.
