Computer Accounts
Each student is provided with a computer account, including email and access to programs such as Internet Explorer, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Photoshop. Students must sign a user agreement governing computer use at school.

Edline
Edline is a technology tool used by parents to access various kinds of information pertaining to their child’s particular classroom and assignments. Teachers post information on class field trips, major tests, and long term assignments with due dates to help students and parents stay organized and enhance the partnership between school and home. Parents receive an individualized, personal code at the beginning of the school year in order to access their child’s information. Contact your respective school for assistance.

ESL Program
The Lower School offers an ESL program for students learning English as a second language. The ESL teacher conducts a pull-out program to give students directed lessons that strengthen vocabulary, grammar, reading and writing skills. Students are pulled out in small groups for approximately 30-45 minutes, 3-5 days per week with students of like ability and of similar age whenever possible. Because the majority of the school day is spent within the regular classroom among native English speakers, most students require just one or two years of ESL help before being fully integrated into their classrooms.

Family Directory
A list of family addresses and telephone numbers can be found in Edline. If contact or address information changes, please send an update to Irit Bendor at ibendor@sdja.com

Guidance Counselor
The Lower School has a Guidance Counselor who is on campus four days per week. The Counselor acts as a resource for students, parents, teachers and administrators. The Counselor teaches formal guidance lessons on topics such as resolving conflicts peacefully, peer relationships and respect. The Counselor also runs a Banana Splits group for children in single parent homes, works with individual and small groups of students to help them problem-solve, and runs social skills groups on an as needed basis. Other services offered include professional development for staff and parent coffees on topics involving the social and emotional development of students.

Kayefet After School Program

SDJA Enters the Digital Age for Research
SDJA has purchased several electronic databases for use by teachers and students at school and home. These products are designed to keep students safe when using the Internet and to help teachers find resources that match each student’s learning needs. These databases include NetTrekker, World Book Encyclopedia online, and two databases from Facts on File. These links will bring you to information about each database and the access information for our school. In addition, the PTO purchased UnitedStreaming that is an online video service for use by the teachers.

Parent Handbook
All school policies, rules and regulations are included in the Parent Handbook. Parents must sign off that they have read the Handbook and agree to its contents at the start of each school year. To view the Parent Handbook, click here.

Pick Up and Drop Off Procedures
SDJA continues to address the importance of a safe arrival and departure for the children of our school. The most difficult time to monitor their safety is during the transitional times of their arrival and departure. Please read the following guidelines that were designed to ensure student safety. Your active participation in following these guidelines not only helps to keep our students safe, but can also contribute to the efficient arrival and departure for many families.
