Resources
Computer Accounts
Each student is provided with a computer account, including email and access to programs such as Internet Explorer, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Photoshop. Students must sign a user agreement governing computer use at school.

Edline
Edline is a technology tool used by parents to access various kinds of information pertaining to their child’s particular classroom and assignments. Teachers post information on class field trips, major tests, and long term assignments with due dates to help students and parents stay organized and enhance the partnership between school and home. Parents receive an individualized, personal code at the beginning of the school year in order to access their child’s information. Contact your respective school for assistance.

ESL Program
The Lower School offers an ESL program for students learning English as a second language. The ESL teacher conducts a pull-out program to give students directed lessons that strengthen vocabulary, grammar, reading and writing skills. Students are pulled out in small groups for approximately 30-45 minutes, 3-5 days per week with students of like ability and of similar age whenever possible. Because the majority of the school day is spent within the regular classroom among native English speakers, most students require just one or two years of ESL help before being fully integrated into their classrooms.

Family Directory
A list of family addresses and telephone numbers can be found in Edline. Please send corrections and changes to updates@sdja.com updates@sdja.com.

SDJA Enters the Digital Age for Research
SDJA has purchased several electronic databases for use by teachers and students at school and home. These products are designed to keep students safe when using the Internet and to help teachers find resources that match each student’s learning needs. These databases include NetTrekker, World Book Encyclopedia online, and two databases from Facts on File. These links will bring you to information about each database and the access information for our school. In addition, the PTO purchased UnitedStreaming that is an online video service for use by the teachers.

Online Databases

Lost & Found
Any items left around campus are picked up by maintenance and placed in the Lost and Found, located in a storage room behind the Lower School office. At the end of each month, any items left unclaimed are donated to charity.

Lunch
At SDJA, we aim to serve students food that tastes good as well as food that is good for them. We believe it is important to provide students with nourishing options that promote the Jewish value of Shmirat Haguf, caring for one’s body, whenever possible and we’ve made some exciting changes to our school lunch program to reflect that belief.

We are always striving to improve the quality and freshness of the food that we serve. We provide foods high in nutrient values, lower in fat than most processed foods and prepare what we can from scratch in our kitchen. Every lunch ordered comes with a salad bar that features local and organic produce whenever possible and we use a combination of whole wheat or grains in most bread products. To create a deeper understanding and appreciation of food, students are working in our edible garden to help provide the school with organic produce when possible and all food is, of course, Kosher.

We understand that our food choices make a difference and at SDJA we seek to make the healthier decision as easy as possible for your children.

Nurse
A Registered Nurse is on staff to provide a warm, caring environment to students that are ill or injured. The nurse can administer various over the counter medications (i.e. Tylenol, Motrin, Tums, etc), if parental permission has been given in our student health center. In addition, students’ medications or treatments as prescribed by a physician and provided by parents can be administered on site. The nurse carefully monitors communicable diseases that may affect the students at SDJA and keeps parents informed.

Pick Up and Drop Off Procedures
SDJA continues to address the importance of a safe arrival and departure for the children of our school. The most difficult time to monitor their safety is during the transitional times of their arrival and departure. Please read the following guidelines that were designed to ensure student safety. Your active participation in following these guidelines not only helps to keep our students safe, but can also contribute to the efficient arrival and departure for many families.
