We are so excited to welcome your students back to school! Whether you are a returning family or a new family, I would like to take a moment to introduce myself and let you know about this year’s offerings in our culinary department. This is my second year at SDJA (http://www.sdja.com/lunch/) Last year, our focus was fully on our students, ensuring that they had nutritional & sustainable meals. We also reconnected our students with our beautiful Levana’s Garden, harvesting food for our kitchen.
We composted over 3,000 lb. of waste from our kitchen and turn it into soil here on campus rather than ending up in a land fill. We cooked for those in need with upper school students and we developed a middle school elective teaching Jewish traditional cooking from around the world. Our 5th grade class sold egg from our chickens, and we had our very first “Farm Stand” organized by our garden club.
This new school year we hope to continue on our journey of expanding nutritional and educational experiences for your children. We hope to have even more “Farm Stands “and a stronger connection between our classrooms and the garden.
