Erna and Andrew Viterbi fled with their parents from their countries of birth as young children to avoid the injustices against the Jews that were prevalent in Europe even before the Holocaust. After establishing themselves in America, they embarked on their lifelong journey that would reflect their passion for making the world a better place.
Besides being leading philanthropists of San Diego Jewish Academy, the Viterbis are active members of Jewish and non Jewish organizations here and around the world. Three of their five grandchildren attend SDJA; their son Alan was President of the SDJA Board of Directors; and their daughter-in-law Caryn was a member of the Board .
