San Diego Jewish Academy is proud to pay tribute to Esther and Carlos Michan, two very special strands of the SDJA tapestry at our Tuition Assistance Campaign Dinner. These warm and generous individuals have been part of the San Diego Jewish Academy family for 17 years. At least one of their three children – David, Cecilia and Zuri – has attended the Academy since 1985. During this time, they have watched SDJA grow from a small, neighborhood school into one of the country’s premier Jewish educational institutions.
From the earliest days, the Michans have been active supporters of the Academy, but their involvement reached a heightened level in 1999 when they joined the Capital Campaign team to serve as spokespeople for the Hispanic community. In addition to sharing their support and generosity with the Academy, Esther and Carlos have held leadership positions in a number of Jewish organizations in our community, including the Ken Jewish Community, Congregation Or El, Congregation Adat Ami, Congregation Beth El, and United Jewish Federation.
Judaism is the thread that holds the Michans’ lives together. Upon settling in this country, Esther and Carlos sought the warmth and security of a Jewish environment for themselves and their family. Through their philanthropy and hard work, they have been instrumental in helping SDJA become the spectacular learning institution that it is today. It is our pleasure to honor Esther and Carlos for their invaluable contribution to our school and the San Diego community.
