Tuition Assistance
Central to San Diego Jewish Academy’s mission and vision as a Jewish day school is our sacred obligation to provide a Jewish education to every child who comes to our door. Nearly one in every four of our students receives some level of tuition assistance, and we are enormously proud that our school does not restrict admission only to those children whose parents can afford to pay full tuition. Throughout the tuition assistance process the school will consider the financial sacrifices and choices the family makes in affording their student’s education.
Applicants are accepted for admission on a need-blind basis. In other words, applying for tuition assistance will not affect the school’s acceptance of the student. Interested families must complete a tuition assistance application and provide all the necessary documentation.
Applicant information is processed via two sources: Financial Aid for Student Tuition (FAST) and the SDJA Tuition Assistance Committee, to determine the tuition assistance award. Staff that are responsible for making acceptance decisions are not part of the tuition assistance determination process.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) About Tuition Assistance
When must I apply?
Current students must apply by February 1 to be eligible for tuition assistance. After this date, currently enrolled students will not be eligible for tuition assistance, unless there is a change in financial circumstance.
New applicants should apply with their initial application for admission. Tuition assistance applications received from new families will be processed in the order received after February 1.
How do I know if my family will qualify for tuition assistance?
Qualification is determined through a process involving both 3rd party analysis (FAST) and an internal review by the school’s Tuition Assistance Committee. The analysis looks at income and expenses, special circumstances, other assets and other sources of income. There are no appeals allowed for the tuition assistance reward. If the tuition assistance award is not accepted by the family, it will be offered to other applicants. If new information is available that was not submitted in the original application, a new application can be submitted at that time.
Could my tuition assistance award ever be adjusted?
SDJA reserves the right to adjust tuition assistance awards should the family’s circumstances change due to employment status or change of compensation, award of scholarship or grants or other events that would impact the financial circumstances of the family.
Could requesting tuition assistance negatively affect the chances of being accepted for admission?
No. The process for determining eligibility for admission is “need blind,” so a student’s request for aid is not a consideration.
Will I be required to provide other documents with my application?
Yes. Applicants must provide their most recent income tax return and W-2/1099 forms by March 1. Please note that tuition assistance will not be awarded until the income tax returns have been received by FAST. The tuition assistance review process may require additional documentation depending on the complexity of the application or unique circumstances. Every application must be accompanied by a completed enrollment packet including the non-refundable processing fee of $50.
Is the information I provide kept confidential?
Yes. The entire tuition assistance process is confidential. Only certain key administrative staff and a very small, confidential committee reviewing applications have access to the information.
