Job Description
Process Updates:
Dear SDJA Community,
After many months of hard work, we are delighted to share with you that the Search Committee has selected Chaim Heller to be the new Executive Director/ Head of School of SDJA, beginning in July of 2012. His final contract will be presented to the Board of Directors for ratification at the December meeting. The three final candidates were all extremely well qualified which made the decision enormously difficult. It was Chaim's ability to identify our strengths and weaknesses and his successful experience in working on many of the same challenges we face, which ultimately led the Search Committee to choose him. Chaim is currently the Head of School at Brandeis Hillel Day School, a pluralistic community Jewish day school with campuses in San Francisco and Marin County.

We embark on an exciting future for SDJA with great enthusiasm and optimism. We realize that some amount of apprehension is inevitable with change in leadership at any institution. However, with an existing strong administrative and faculty team in place, a committed lay leadership and plenty of time for a seamless transition, we begin this new phase of our growth with confidence. Both Chaim and the SDJA board are committed to continue working transparently, and to building consensus as we move forward. We all share the same goal: to ensure that the San Diego Jewish Academy continues to be a stellar independent pluralistic Jewish day school with excellent academics, and one that instills a love and passion for Judaism in all of our students.
Throughout the search process, many of you took time to meet the candidates and to participate in forums and meetings. Your feedback to the Search Committee was invaluable and we are extremely grateful for your efforts.
As we begin our transition phase, we ask everyone-parents, faculty, staff and students-to join us in welcoming and embracing Chaim and his wife Michal into our community. We wish Chaim much success in his new position, and we are confident that he will lead SDJA to a bright and successful future, as we go from strength to strength.
Sincerely,
Roberto Jinich, Search Committee Chair and Shari Schenk, President, Board of Directors
